Our friends Apollo Sunshine new album, Shall Noise Upon just received an 8.0 rating from music website, Pitchfork.

Jazz Heritage Center, 94115 Extends Music Exhibit Through SF OutsideLands

The Jazz Heritage Center, an organization less than a year-old, is currently housing an absolute gem of a art/music exhibition in their "Lush Life Gallery" featuring fine art, sculptures, photos and exhibition-only collectors items of, by and from Miles Davis and Santana - some featuring Miles and Santana together.

As you can see on the gallery website, the exhibit was originally scheduled to close July 31st, but Gallery Director, Pete Fitzsimmons was true to his word as the exhibit has been extended through the end of August.

Hopefully, music fans from around the country will stop by the gallery located right next door (technically the same building) as the new-ish SF Yoshi's on Fillmore St while in town for SF's Outside Lands Festival Aug. 22nd - 24th.

No great photos to share with you here, but as a music fan, it is time very well spent seeing these pieces of music history on display in all their beauty and importance. And, btw, it's FREE.

West Coast Band in Serious Road Accident

Sad news out of Southern California where Portland based band, The Prids suffered a terrible car accident as a result of a flat tire. The Oregonian has the story here:

Portlanders the Prids were in a bad van accident in California, while on tour. All five people in the van were injured, and the van was totaled. They need help to get home and get healed up.

Looks like SoCal is putting on an impromptu fund raiser show tonight at Spaceland in LA.

Big Light

Big LightBig Light

Big Light is the next big thing to emerge from San Francisco's greater Potrero district since the overstuffed burrito. The band gets better with every show, and coming off a tour with Canadian-Virginian quartet Surprise Me Mr. Davis, the band is finally home, on stage and off. Big Light is a collective with a big sound, often 7 people on stage, kinda like if The Band were born today on the west coast. The hooks are catchy ("Hard Knocks") and the refrains come back strong ("Bonebreaker") and stay with you all day. As Dennis Cook wrote on JamBase, "Though a young band in many respects, there's also something endearingly yesteryear about them, a kind of respect for craft, hooks and musicianship more in line with the '60s or '70s but in service of a sound that's timeless, as touched by Pavement as it is The Beatles."
